Our pigs have two main roles on the farm: land clearing and compost turning. Depending on the season and the needs of the farm, our pigs are either clearing and rooting brush on the wooded edges, gleaning acorns and falling goodies in the forest, or turning compost with their strong rooters for our gardens and pastures. They are key on our farm for nutrient cycling and creating positive disturbance to accelerate plant community succession.
We primarily sell whole and half hogs. Prices are based on hanging weight. Additional fees are due to the butcher.
Whole hogs: $6.00/lb
Half hogs: $6.25/lb
Our lambs are born on green pastures and help us maintain lush fields by eating weeds and forbes that the pickier dairy cows won't touch. They are moved to new grass daily and have been hugely beneficial in increasing pasture fertility. They receive no grain and are finished in the spring and fall when pastures are peaking and the living is easy. We sell whole and half lambs. Prices are based on hanging weight. Additional fees are due to the butcher.
Whole Lamb: $8.00/lb
Half Lamb: $8.50/lb
Our dairy herd is unique to the area. We have a small herd of A2/A2 dairy cows. Our cows are moved one or more times a day depending on pasture quality and animal need. They are milked out on fresh pasture and spent their days eating grass, tending calves, and ruminating on how good they have it. Their role on our farm is to fertilize pastures and build soil!
Our milk is sold as Pet Milk, per NC Law, and is priced at
- $6 Half Gallon
- $12 Whole Gallon
We have a flock of laying hens that live out on pasture during the growing season and follow our herd of dairy cows and flock of sheep. During the winter months they stay at our homestead fertilizing our gardens, creating compost, and pecking down cover crops. Their role on the farm is to help maintain the fly population and additionally fertilize pastures and gardens. Our eggs are $8 a dozen and often times you can find them in the farm store, but we recommend letting us know how many you want a week so we can set them aside!
Our chickens are raised out on pasture with new grass and grubs to scratch and peck daily. Their role on the farm is to provide a fertility boost for pastures and newly cleared ground that needs some extra love. Our birds are $6.50/lb for a whole chicken or buy 6 or more and get them parted for an additional $5 a bird.
We HIGHLY encourage people to place orders ahead of time as we usually sell out before processing date.
